I see this. How can I solve this? The real temptation is to open each one of them and separate it properly. Instead thinking delegations, like they should or the facility should. But I was a coward. I didn’t find the courage to stand up and do it regards people thinking. But what I learned this time is the word ignorance. Some people are so lightly minded, low instruction (somebody that don’t know things), slightly aware. Just follow impulses, this is a result of emotions. Psychologically this persons are following just the needs. I wanna eat, I am full, I finish= trow. This are the basics of our ancestors behavior. Time doesn’t change that, but we can add. Add with experience and learn. Than make a change. So the process is how can we prevent this effectively? Time and instruction. Because when people change the big companies have to change in order to keep us buying things. I agree, but we can do it more properly. Keep the weel spinning but preserving our planet at all costs. Edogawa River Clean Up😓 20 bags of (mainly plastic) trash, 2 bags of PET bottles, 1 bag of cans, 4(!) bags of batteries, a broken suitcase and an abandoned trampoline. All this from just one (yes, one) kilometer along the Edogawa River. Thanks to @tokyoriverfriends for organizing. If you are interested in helping clean Tokyo’s rivers and avoid all this waste being flushed into the ocean, Tokyo River Friends does a clean up every couple weeks.

Food shopping in Japan makes me want to cry • I try to buy most of our food at local shops, so that the money goes to people rather than corporations. About 25% of the produce at my 3 local greengrocers is not packaged, so I tend to go there and only buy fruits and veggies that are loose or #plasticfree • But waiting in line at the cash register, I see that every single thing people are buying is placed in a separate plastic bag. The meat that is already wrapped? Put in another bag. The loose bananas? In a bag. So.much.waste. • When I went get to the register I say I don’t want any bags. And every single time they go to put my loose veggies is a vinyl bag... when I stop them, showing that I have my own cloth versions, they look at me as if *I* am the weird one😤 • It makes me despair about how incredibly shortsighted and used to waste people are, that it doesn’t even register. • We all need to be activists about this. In Japan it is not useful to get angry or confrontational in public, as you will get labeled as an ‘angry foreigner’ and people will not listen to you. Be firm, low-key and polite, but make them think!

aliunbound. Going plastic-free in Japan is very much possible, especially with reg

Going plastic-free in Japan is very much possible, especially with regards to fresh food. How do? You simply don't buy any in plastic. My partner and I shop at small grocery stores on our work route. We buy whatever we can get that is not wrapped in plastic and my partner pretty much cooks them up as is. Sometimes he'll use some olive oil and put them in the oven. Other times he'll just steam or fry, and put everything together on one plate. We don't really follow recipes anymore, as we can't get all of the ingredients needed in non-plastic packaging, so my guy just lightly seasons things and cooks them in a very simple way. You have to be extremely opportunistic with regards to groceries. We always have a reusable shopping bag on us for random plastic-free bargains that we spot whilst out and about. For example, we went to a picnic during cherry blossom season and on the way back we ducked into a supermarket that was right near the station to have a sticky-beak. We found a lot of vegetables and fruit displayed only in cardboard boxes and managed to snag a few day's worth of produce for a reasonable price. To not sacrifice your health and diet in the process of going plastic-free, you have to be on constant lookout for small local grocery stores and take the time to have a look. It may be that you'll need to shop at several places instead of one to have a full fridge, pantry and belly, but so be it. The alternative is not an option. #plasticfreejourney #plasticfreejp #plasticfreeliving #plasticfreejapan #lifeinjapan #livinginjapan #expatinjapan #expatlife #doingourbit #doingourpart #aussieinjapan #ecoliving #aussieinjapan

aliunbound. Going plastic-free is difficult and expensive. Here's a short price co

Going plastic-free is difficult and expensive. Here's a short price comparison involving a household staple, bread. Gyomu Super (業務スーパー) is a discount food chain in Japan. It's a great place to buy cheap food when you're working with a tight budget, but not so good if you're trying to avoid plastic. We used to buy bread from Gyomu Super. I mean, at 65 yen for 6 slices, it's a steal! But since we started trying to go plastic-free, we have been buying from a local ma and pa bakery. For 3 lots of 6 slice packs, we were forking out 660 yen. That's 220 yen for six slices and more than three times the price of what we were paying at Gyomu Super. Still, despite this, we were willing to pay that extra amount to support a local business and achieve our goals, and everything was going well until recently when the bakery shut up shop for good. Sadly, that was the only grassroot bakery in our neck of the woods, and we had to turn to a chainstore pervayor of doughy morsels as a substitute. They accepted our own bags and clips, which was great, but their loaf sizes were smaller. Unfortunately, I only found this out after they had already sliced everything up and bagged it. I ended up paying 535 yen for 12 slices of bread. That's around 267 yen per 6 slices, and over 4 times what we would pay at Gyomu Super. It's crazy, I know, but sadly that's how much more eco-conscious people are expected to fork out for a lot of basic items. It's stressful, draining, and maddening, but what else can we do? Contribute to the problem? That's not an option. #plasticfreejourney #plasticfreejp #plasticfreeliving #ecoliving #ecoconsciousliving #plasticfreejapan #supportsmallbusiness #buylocal #livinginjapan #lifeinjapan #expatlife #expatinjapan #aussieinjapan #doingourbit #業務スーパー #discountshoppingjapan #gyomusuper

Going plastic-free in Japan isn't easy, but it can be a little more so with the support of businesses. My partner got some delicious and totally addictive chicken from Family Mart this evening for dinner, and the staff were okay with putting it straight into the container that be brought from home. No need for paper waste and no need for plastic waste. I'm very proud of him for being so proactive in going plastic-free. He really surprised me on this one. The next time you've got a hankering for some Fami-chicken, why not try to bring your own container and do the same? It's not as difficult as you may think. Every little step you take towards a plastic-free/waste-free life does make a difference.

Mister Donuts is one of my favourite places to have a sweet snack and coffee in Japan, as it's smoke-free and I can easily avoid plastic waste here. The trick is to order a hot cafe ole. That way you don't have to use any of the milk and sugar that comes in little non-reusable plastic containers. To go zero waste, bring your own serviettes/cloths with you. And if you want to get takeaway donuts, bring your own container. They will put them directly into it. Just make sure you say no to the moist towelettes that they will inevitably try to give you and you're all set. Oh, and the cafe ole, at the very least, comes with unlimited refills. You'll have to check about the other types of coffees when you go. I know that not all of them have the same offer.
